About

Our Story

We created Empowered Self in 2018 with the vision of bringing a Wellbeing culture to business environments in all sectors and throughout the UK. Based in Gloucestershire, we work with clients in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol, Bath and London and the surrounding areas.

Having both worked in the field of supporting, growing and developing people, we felt our mix of skills, knowledge, expertise, creativity and innovation had the potential to benefit and reach a wider audience. With one in four people suffering from mental health issues, we wanted to create something that would help businesses support their employees and build the resilience that is needed when faced with challenges.

We believe that making Wellbeing a priority is fundamental for the growth of society and the environment. We are faced with challenges, uncertainty and instability in our current climate and this has an impact on our Wellbeing.

Our philosophy is simple, when we’re positive, our brains are more motivated, engaged, creative, energetic, resilient, and productive.

At Empowered Self, we believe everyone has the potential to be the change, they want to be.

Atlanta Rayner

Atlanta’s first career was with the BBC, working largely on medical-based documentaries. She wanted the freedom to gain a deeper understanding and to offer more help than she could as a filmmaker, so retrained as a counsellor.

Atlanta specialises as a relationship and bereavement counsellor and is also a trained psychosexual therapist with more than 12 years’ experience in this field. She has a BA in culture and media studies, postgraduate diplomas in couples’ counselling and psychosexual therapy and a Masters in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes.

Before jointly founding Empowered Self with Emma, Atlanta worked for 15 years with relationship counselling service Relate, at the same time running a private counselling practice. Atlanta also facilitates a creative writing project in her local community.

When she’s not working, Atlanta enjoys yoga, wild water swimming, creative writing and pottery, and she helps at Stroud Foodbank and her local community café.
